Today is Inspire Your Heart With Art Day!

If you've ever visited a Buddhist temple or admired religious art from Asia, you've likely seen mandalas.

Sand Mandalas have been in the Tibetan art culture for centuries and are a treat to the eyes of those seeing them. In the olden days, monks would use precious stones. Nowadays using gemstones is not practical so monks use dyed sand.

The very act of creating the mandala is believed to be sacred as it represents the human journey from ignorance to Buddhahood. After the Mandala is created it is destroyed in one swift sweep. The sand is then swept into the rivers where it is believed that the river waters will carry the blessed sand far and wide.
