The Ilyushin Il-114, a Russian regional twin-engine turboprop airliner, was developed in 1980s. It could carry up to 64 passengers to a range of 1000 km at a speed of 500 km/h. It’s advantage was the ability to operate out of poorly equipped airfields with unpaved runways. Il-114 made its maiden flight in 1990 but because to financial problems associated with the break-up of the Soviet Union it finally received airworthiness certification only in 1997. In 2000s the aircraft was produced in Tashkent but there were less than 20 manufactured in total. Though Il-114 is out of production today, Russia may to bring the project back to life. The production of an upgraded version of Ilyushin Il-114 may start in 3 years. What do you think about this project?
